Inspired by surfing and the surfing life, the Westwatcher's music is a chill variant of surf-rock. A step back into instrumental sixties pop. Echoes of the “Endless Summer Theme,” Antonio Carlos Jobím, and Martin Denny are evoked through the twang of Fender and Gretsch guitars, lush reverb sounds, and cinematic melodies. Of course, Darius' songwriting and guitar work are at the center of things. He calls the genre “surf-chill” and has released a Westwatcher album each of the last three years: Locally Exotic (summer, 2023), Slide the Wide Horizon (summer, 2022), and Groundswell Corduroy (summer, 2021). What began as a lockdown experiment (What, Darius doing instrumental music??) has become a central passion. Click on the album covers below for the music.
